"I Want To Teach"

Lesson 12, Bulletin Board

What do your students see as soon as they walk into your classroom? If their attention wanders from the lesson you have prepared, what guides their thoughts back to the lesson?

All of us from time to time allow our thinking to wander around, even while working on things that are important to us. It is very difficult to keep one’s mind in total control at all times. Bulletin boards can be a great help when this occurs with your students. Even if you do not have a regular board but just a bear wall, there are ways to create a visual that returns your student’s attention back to the Bible.

Bulletin boards can be as simple or as complex as you choose to make them. They can cost a lot of money or be very inexpensive. The idea is to keep visuals in front of the students that will encourage them to grow in the LORD. Even an old chalk board can be turned into a reminder of a lesson. If you do not use it during class you can cover it with paper and add visuals on it. Or you can purchase some chalk and do stick figures as you tell your lesson, leaving them for review later. Anything in your classroom can be utilized rather than just being an eyesore. If you have a large piece of equipment in your classroom that has no other storing space, cover it with colorful paper. Let the students do a drawing of one of their lessons on a long sheet of bulletin paper that will fit around the piece. Then simply tape or glue the piece around the stored piece of equipment. If it has a flat top, display some of the work of your students or set a basket of flowers that depicts the current season on top. There are any number of ideas to utilize the space you have and make your classroom more learning friendly at the same time.

Be creative and find ways to make your room cheerful and inviting. Don’t be afraid to display your students work. They really enjoy seeing things they created or completed displayed. This is a great encouragement for them to want to do more. Invite the parents to come visit your room and let them see the great work their child has done.

There are some new ideas this month for bulletin boards below. Check them out and then add your own thoughts to make it more useful for your students. If you have any bulletin board ideas you can share or pictures of a board you liked real well send them along to us and we will be happy to share them with others.

Have a fantastic month and grow stronger in the LORD everyday!
